What is Educational Neglect?

  1. Failure of a parent/guardian to enroll a child of mandatory school age, in school.

  2. When parent/guardian disregards the child’s educational requirements.

  3. *Failure to attend school, with or without the knowledge of the parent/legal guardian, for reasons other than those specifically outlined as excused.  (Truancy: Unexcused Absences).

  4. Failure of a parent/guardian to enroll a child in school after withdrawal.

*GA DOE Student Attendance Protocol – Sec. 2 (a) – Unexcused

Just like seeds develop into plants, efforts to prevent educational neglect can lead to lasting positive outcomes.
