Selected because your child has eight (8) or more unexcused absences
The law requires only five (5) before criminal proceedings may begin
Information is provided to the Solicitor-General’s office in accordance with the law
Rather than immediately commence criminal prosecution, the Solicitor-General’s Office is giving you a second chance
This meeting is a part of that opportunity
As part of this opportunity, you must enroll in University for Parents. This non-profit organization provides educational opportunities for parents. Once enrolled, University for Parents will notify the Solicitor-General’s Office
As a part of this agreement, your child cannot have any more unexcused absences
If you do not attend, or do not successfully complete University for Parents, the Solicitor-General’s Office will report your non-compliance to APS
If prosecution is initiated for educational neglect, the Solicitor- General’s Office can prosecute up to the maximum penalty
As stated before, the penalty for this offense can include up to 30 days in jail, a $100 fine and community service, for each instance of truancy
